Swindon Domestic Abuse Support are the latest recipient after applying for our biannual Community Fund.

The Community Fund is a dedicated resource for backing local causes with funding, marketing help, free travel or the use of our buses for events.

“At Swindon’s Bus Company, we’re proud to play an integral role within the local community,” said Swindon’s Bus Company general manager, Alex Chutter.

“As well as providing award-winning bus services across the area, we endeavour to support and raise awareness for those doing excellent work on behalf of those living here.

“When representatives from this important local service contacted us to see if we could provide them with travel aid, we were only too pleased to oblige. This issue is particularly pertinent because, only recently, my colleague - driver Kyle Caswell - received well-deserved praise for helping one of his passengers and her children seek refuge when she asked for help after boarding his bus.

Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service is committed to empowering and supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse - by providing a range of accessible services that promote positive change, and to keep people safe.

“As a charity, we rely on donations to make trips and activities possible,” said refuge manager, Dawn Browne.

“Paying for travel does not always fall within our budget, and many families rely on benefits to support the cost of living after fleeing violence - often having to leave paid employment as a result of the abuse.

“The financial impact of running a refuge is very high, and we rely on the support of local organisations. We are incredibly grateful to Swindon’s Bus Company for its generosity.”

The Community Fund is open to applicants all year round, with Swindon’s Bus Company funding and support donated during June and December.
